About Our Office

Terri established her financial planning career in 1997 and brings over 20 years’ experience to her role as the Managing Adviser for United Capital’s Nashville office. In 2013, Terri founded Richland Advisory, LLC, to fulfill her dream of creating a unique financial planning firm dedicated to advising her clients on how to live their best possible financial life. Richland Advisory was committed to offering more services to their growing list of clients, and in 2015 chose a strategic partnership with United Capital, a privately held Registered Investment Advisor based in Newport Beach, California with nearly $13 billion in assets under management. Terri provides personalized advice on wealth accumulation and investment advisory, as well as overall financial life management to individuals, families and small business owners. She is particularly passionate about advising other professional women such as herself, who desire to realize the peace and subsequent joy which can come from finding work, life, and financial balance.

Terri Bolden Ward, CFP®

Managing Adviser


Terri Bolden Ward established her career in financial planning and investments in 1997. With over 20 years’ experience, she has developed an integrated approach to financial planning, which is to consider everything the client wants to accomplish today while helping them remain focused on the future.

After spending the last eight years as an Investment Adviser Representative with another Investment Advisory Firm, Terri wanted to expand her ability to serve as her clients' most trusted adviser. Prior to joining United Capital, she established Richland Advisory, LLC to create a unique firm where the primary purpose is offering unbiased, objective advice based on each client’s specific financial goals. She continues to accomplish this at United Capital by leveraging the latest integrated technology, investment research and financial guidance strategies, while always providing a personal commitment to serve the clients' long-term needs.

Terri's role as Managing Adviser is to listen to her clients' goals, personally analyze their unique situations, then offer planning solutions that not only incorporate what the clients know they want but also what they may not realize they need.

Terri's clients typically fall into one or more of these categories:

  • They are successful professionals or business owners who lack the time, expertise or desire to manage their financial situation with the same dedication and energy they devote to their career
  • They have financial products, but no unbiased adviser who has the responsibility of coordinating an integrated financial plan that aligns all of the client’s objectives
  • They are seeking guidance because their situation has become more complex, often due to a crossroad in life: change in job, birth or adoption, impending retirement or inheritance

Within this approach, Terri is committed to:

  • Take complex financial planning issues and explain them in a straightforward, unbiased manner

Terri was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated from Brentwood Academy. She attended Georgia Tech on an athletic scholarship where she graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science in Management with certificates in Finance and Economics. During her Division-I athletic career, Terri was named to both the Athletic and Academic All-ACC Teams.

She completed Belmont’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER program and became a CFP® practitioner in 2003.

In addition, Terri is a former board member of the National Association of Women Business Owners and a member of the Financial Planning Association. Terri and her husband, Jon, have two children and reside in Brentwood, Tennessee. In her free time, Terri enjoys teaching Sunday school class, playing tennis, biking and attending her children’s athletic events.

Kara Murphy is a member of the Executive Committee at United Capital, overseeing the Investment Management team including Research, Advocates, and Operations. Her mission is to provide best-in-class investment management expertise, plus innovative strategies and tools. Most recently, she was Chief Investment Officer at SunAmerica Asset Management, LLC, an AIG subsidiary. During her tenure as CIO, assets grew from $28 billion to $50 billion, making SunAmerica one of the fastest-growing asset managers in the industry.

Prior to joining SunAmerica, Kara worked at Chilton Investment Company, a hedge fund, and at Morgan Stanley Investment Management as an analyst researching equities, macroeconomics, and investment strategy. Before joining the investment industry, she was an analyst at Marvin Zonis + Associates with a focus on Eastern Europe and Russia.

Kara is a proud alum of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and the University of Chicago. She is a CFA charter-holder, a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, and a member of the New York Society of Quantitative Analysts. She serves on the board of directors for Grace Outreach, a non-profit organization which provides educational and career training for women in the Bronx, NY. She also started an all-volunteer organization called Welcome Home, which provides support for newly resettled refugees.


James Olmore, CFP®

National Program Manager


At United Capital James is the National Director for the United Capital Referral Program where he is responsible for all new business development, training, reporting and management of the sales teams. His role requires close collaboration with the Investment Management Group, Marketing, Compliance and the Executive Team.

Prior to joining the firm, James was a senior wealth consultant for a large Registered Investment Advisor where he was responsible for business development, financial planning and risk management. James was also a vice president with Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services and provided investment and custody solutions to Family Offices, Banks and Registered Investment Advisors. While at Fidelity, James also held a role as Vice President and Senior Account Executive at Fidelity Investments where he managed client relationships in the Southern California area where he was able to provide services for individual clients and companies that qualified for the Private Client program.

James graduated with my bachelor’s degree from UCLA and have a Master's in Business Administration from the Marshall School at USC. James has also earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation.

When not at work, James is active in his church, the community and volunteers at the school where his children attend.

Began Career in 2005

Peter is a member of the United Capital investment management team, where he serves as an IM Advocate for over twenty offices. With an extensive background in finance and operational management, he applies his skills to educating regional offices on using the United Capital Investment Platform and associated software tools efficiently and effectively.   

Previously, he served as Director of Operations (DOO) at United Capital’s North Wales office where he oversaw daily operations of the local office, strategic business development and investment management. He also served as relationship manager for institutional and investment focused clients and created client correspondence for quarterly market updates and impacts on local investment models. He served as a member of the Investment Platform Advisory Council, which was tasked with providing oversight of and feedback on United Capital’s national investment platform.

Previously, Peter progressively served as Financial Analyst, Executive Financial Analyst, and then DOO at First Senior Financial Group, an insurance firm focused on principal protection and estate creation with $1.8 billion in assets. As DOO, he oversaw daily operations of the company and strategic business  development and was credited with increasing efficiency by over 50% for both advisors and staff.

Earlier, Peter worked at Penn Street Funds, a start–up mutual fund company specializing in quantitative strategies that focused on large–cap companies.  The last fund they launched eventually sold to MFS and became the MFS Sector Rotation Fund.

Peter began his career in 2005 at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith where he graduated out of their POA program as a financial advisor in their Princeton, NJ office.

Matthew Unger, CFP®

Senior Guidance Specialist


Matthew takes an educational approach to working with his clients. He wants them to feel comfortable asking questions and learning more about their finances. Specializing in risk management products and services, Matthew has a background in retirement planning, college savings and investment management giving him a deep understanding of not only the industry, but what his clients are faced with.

Clients come to Matthew to gain a clearer view of how to grow and protect their financial future. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, with a degree in Finance on the investment management track and a minor in Accounting, he jumped into the financial planning industry with the goal to leave people better off than he finds them. 

He holds the CFP® & CLTC designations, Series 7, 63 and 65 securities registrations as well as the Group I Life & Health Insurance license. When Matthew isn’t working, he enjoys playing soccer and traveling with his wife, Amy.
