Emily C. Sanders, CPA®, JM, CCM®


Emily C. Sanders is a Managing Director of the United Capital Atlanta office. In 2009, she was named one of the “Top 50 Women in Wealth Management” in the U.S. by Wealth Manager magazine. Emily graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in International Economics and from New York University with an MBA in Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA®) and a Certified Cash Manager (CCM®), as well as FINRA Series 65 licensed. In 2013, she won a national stock picking competition for Portfolios with Purpose, benefiting the Atlanta Women's Foundation. Emily received a Juris Master (JM) degree from Emory University School of Law.

Emily has served on the Managing Directors' Advisory Council for United Capital and was awarded "Exceptional Contributor"* in 2014 and “MVP”* in 2017.

Prior to founding the United Capital Atlanta office, formerly Sanders Financial Management, Inc., Emily served as Assistant Treasurer at BellSouth Corporation for nine years where she and her staff of 14 managed $1 billion in corporate and pension fixed income investments, as well as the International Finance group, handling foreign exchange, mergers and acquisitions, and global banking. She has visited 40 countries and was an internal auditor in South Africa.

From 1977 to 1985, Emily was employed in various financial management and budget capacities by The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta and Charter Publishing Company in New York City, and she was a financial consultant to The Home Depot in 1995. Originally from Long Island, New York, Emily is steeped in a healthcare background as the daughter of a physician and a hospital administrator. Her interest in elder care issues led to the attainment of the Registered Financial Gerontologist (RFG) designation. Emily is an international speaker and has been quoted in numerous publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Entrepreneur Magazine, Financial Planning, CNN and more. Additionally, Emily has appeared on Bloomberg TV, CNBC Worldwide Exchange and Closing Bell and as a Guest Host on CNBC Europe TV.

Emily is a member of the AICPA and serves on the Georgia Society of CPAs' Leadership Council, where she received its Distinguished Committee Chair award for leadership of the Committee on Financial Literacy. She also serves on the Endowment Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and co-chairs United Capital's Women's Leadership Initiative.

A resident of Atlanta for over three decades, Emily and her husband, Jon Margolis, live in Brookhaven and have three adult children (two daughters and a son) and three grandchildren. She is a 1994 graduate of the Leadership Atlanta program. In her spare time she enjoys international travel, reading biographies, visiting museums and being involved with The Atlanta International School's Alumni Parent Group.
