Joe is Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner of United Capital, the nation’s first and largest financial life management company. A proven entrepreneur, investor, best-selling author and sought-after industry speaker, Joe previously built Centurion Capital, which he sold to General Electric Financial (GE) in 2001 and served as President.

United Capital currently manages over $18 billion in client assets. The firm has more than 70 locations and nearly 600 employees. United Capital has financial backing from Bessemer Venture Partners, Sageview Capital and Grail Partners.

Joe is a renowned industry visionary with featured columns in both Investment News and Time magazine’s Money.com. He is a frequent contributor to CNBC, Fox Business, Bloomberg and PBS and appears regularly in both traditional and online media.

Joe was a recipient of a prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2015 and the Schwab Pacesetter Impact Award. Joe has an undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University and MBA degrees from University of California, Berkeley, and Columbia University. Most important, Joe is lucky to have a wonderful family who inspires him every day. Joe, his wife, Jen, and their daughters, Charlotte, Juliette and Samantha, live in Newport Coast, CA.

Gary Roth

When you are not working, what do you care about most?
My family and my music. I have been in several bands and love to perform.

Gary is responsible for execution of the company's business plan and for coordination among the key operational functions of the company. He serves on the Executive Committee and on the Board of Directors of UCFA. Prior to joining United Capital, Gary was a co-founder and senior executive of AssureNet Ltd., a leading internet application service provider for the insurance and financial services industries.

Jorge is a member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for overseeing operation of the company and the work of executives responsible for leading the execution of business strategies.  In addition to responsibility for day to day management of the organization, Jorge is directly responsible for the Client Experience, People & Organization, Investment Management, and Operations divisions of United Capital, as well as working with the Compliance Department.

Prior to joining United Capital, Jorge held senior leadership roles at various firms including Fidelity Investments, JP Morgan Chase, and Citibank. He has extensive experience leading large, global operations and brings over 20 years of operational expertise to the firm.

Jorge graduated from High Point University with a BS in International Business. He also holds his FINRA Series 7 and 24 licenses.

Mike Herman

Chief Compliance Officer

What's your dream for the company? To prove that you can win with a positive culture. Frankly, there's too much greed and selfishness in our industry, and I think we can restore the public faith. Mike serves on United Capital's Executive Committee and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day compliance and regulatory oversight for United Capital Financial Advisers and PFE Advisors Inc. Mike's responsibilities include conducting an annual review of United Capital and PFE Advisors, advertisement and marketing reviews, SEC exam preparation, anti-money-laundering supervision, and Policy & Procedure Manual and Code of Ethics maintenance. Additionally, he is responsible for addressing any regulatory and client inquiries.

Matt Brinker

What's your dream for the company?
I want to see the advisers that join us succeed beyond their wildest dreams, and at the same time, their clients have never been happier.

When you are not working, what do you care about most?
Of course, family. I am also a bit of a crazy sportsman and adventurer.

Matt is a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible for growing United Capital via strategic partnerships and acquisitions of select wealth management companies around the county. He is focused through a proprietary evaluation method, assessing the cultural and business match of potential partner firms to ensure United's ability to improve the business. Matt's team is also responsible for the design and execution of the partnership agreement and integration into United Capital.

Jason serves on United Capital's Executive Committee and is focused on the management and strategic development of United Capital's core business offerings as well as the overall positioning of the firm. He is focused on delivering next-generation wealth management, practice management and business optimization services on top of centralized, high-powered infrastructure. Jason's team is also responsible for transitioning and working with firms to ensure that they actualize their potential as investment advisory practices, as well as working on regional office and enterprise-level business development activities.

Karen Marchak

When you are not working, what do you care about most?
Spending time with the people in my life who mean the most to me. I invest a lot in relationships and am lucky to have a wonderful husband, extended family and friends.

Karen is responsible for United Capital's human resources, training and development and providing support to the operations function within the regional offices. In this role, she oversees all people management functions that allow United Capital to recruit, hire, develop and retain the best talent in the business for the organization. Additionally, she works with the operations functions within the offices to help integrate all employees into the United Capital culture.

One of United Capital's founders, Mike is a member of the Executive Committee, responsible for the company's operating platform and technology and for driving enterprise innovation, as well as a member of the Investment Committee. Mike and his team are responsible for the company's technology road map and supporting current systems and tools. In addition, he leads efforts to develop next-generation advisor tools and client service models incorporating leading-edge technology. In prior roles at the company, Mike created the initial United Capital investment strategies as well as the performance reporting and custodial relationships, and he has played a central role in the acquisition and integration of advisory teams to a consistent operating and service standard.

Mike's first career was in high-tech, with 10 years at Intel Corporation holding various positions within business planning, operations and microprocessor design. He and his wife enjoy traveling abroad and spent a couple of years outside the U.S. between his time at Intel and United Capital.

Mike earned an MBA and MS in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology / Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, MA, and a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL. He holds a Series 65 license to provide advisory services.

Kris Cheh Beck

General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

What's your dream for the company?
Nothing less than for United Capital to be the agent of transformation in how the industry shifts people's relationship with their money so that they can be empowered to live their best life possible. What we all have is time, and our clients absolutely deserve to live their best lives. It's incredibly meaningful to me to be a part of that.

Family. My family reminds me every day what my best life looks like.

Kris is a member of the Executive Committee and serves as United Capital's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. She is responsible for leading the company's strategic and tactical legal initiatives and risk management. As the General Counsel, Kris advises United Capital's senior team on legal strategies to drive business results in diverse areas, ranging from intellectual property business platform development to corporate acquisitions, and manages the company's overall legal function.

Kris started her career with O'Melveny & Myers as a member of the firm's Transactions Department, where she represented institutional clients on complex transactions ranging from infrastructure financing and public securities offerings to advising promising startup enterprises.

Kris is a Double Bruin۝ who earned her BA in English Literature and JD from University of California, Los Angeles. During law school, Kris was a recipient of the Joseph Drown Fellowship and the Affiliates Scholarship.

Kris' work with corporate clients has been acknowledged by the Los Angeles Business Journal, and she has served as a member of Pacific Council on International Policy.

David Hallman, CFA

David manages the Field Services Department, which encompasses Investment Operations, Financial Guidance, Office Practice Management and Integration.David was prior Chair of the Investment Committee and was instrumental in the development of the Investment Platform for the first eight years of the firm. Prior to joining United Capital, David worked for several firms as a portfolio manager in both equity and fixed income management and research. He has extensive experience in asset allocation modeling and over 30 years in the financial services industry. David earned a BBA and MBA at the University of Texas at Austin and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Jon C. Frojen

Jon is Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of United Capital and a member of the firm's executive team, responsible for leading all aspects of the company's financial management. He brings over 30 years of experience within the financial services industry with a track record of growing businesses. He has extensive experience with capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and private equity with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and broad skillset. Throughout his career, Jon has shown an aptitude for identifying companies that have an ability to disrupt۝ markets. His comprehensive knowledge of the wealth management space and passion for working with trailblazing, innovative companies brought him to United Capital.

Prior to joining the firm, Jon served as CFO for a variety of companies, most recently IoanDepot and Cetera Financial Group, one of the nation's largest independent financial advisor networks. While at Cetera, Jon led all financial functions, including acquisition strategy and capital management, as the company grew from approximately $600 million to $1.2 billion in revenues, and he prepared the company for an IPO before the sale of the company to RCS Capital.

Prior to Cetera, Jon worked as managing director for Milestone Advisors LLC, a boutique investment bank for the financial services industry, where he co-founded and served as CFO of Milestone Asset Resolution Company LLC, an advisory and asset management platform. Prior to his position with Milestone, Jon was CFO for IndyMac Commercial Lending Corporation, ResMAE Mortgage Corporation and ePolicy, Inc.

Before his positions as CFO, Jon worked as treasurer for Avco Financial Services, Inc. and Long Beach Mortgage Company. He spent the first 10 years of his career at First Interstate Bank, Ltd. and then Standard Chartered Bank in various commercial banking, corporate finance and debt capital markets positions.

Jon graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a BA in Economics before attending the University of Southern California, where he received his MBA. In his free time, Jon enjoys mountain biking, reading, skiing, traveling, backpacking, and playing guitar.

Charles Birnbaum

Charles joined Bessemer in 2013 and is a Senior Associate in the New York office. He focuses on investments in the mobile and communications, financial services and consumer web sectors. Prior to joining Bessemer, Charles spent three years at Foursquare, a location-based mobile application company based in New York City. As an early member of the Foursquare team, he helped create and bring to market some of Foursquare's first merchant-facing tools. He then became Director of Mobile & International Business Development focusing on carrier, OEM and strategic partnerships and led the company's business development efforts in key growth markets such as Brazil, Russia and Turkey. ۬۬Prior to Foursquare, Charles spent six years in investment banking and equity capital markets where he focused on the technology, media and telecom sectors and executed more than 50 equity and equity-linked public offerings. Charles holds an MBA from the Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the Joseph H. Lauder Institute for Management and International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in History from Northwestern University.

Sasank Chary is a Principal at Sageview Capital LP in Greenwich, Connecticut, an investment firm focused on making growth capital investments in small and midsized companies. He joined Sageview in 2006 and focuses on investments in the financial services sector. Prior to Sageview, Sasank was an Associate at Harvest Partners, LP, where he focused on transactions across the consumer, industrial and business services industries. Previously, he worked with UBS Securities LLC as an Analyst in the Global Industries group of the Investment Banking division. ۬Sasank earned a BS in Economics from the Wharton School and a BA in International Relations magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.

Darlene T. DeRemer

Darlene is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Grail Partners LLC, which was established in 2005. In addition to heading up the Boston office, she is the Senior Banker focusing on the asset management industry worldwide and has advised clients in a wide range of strategic transactions. Grail is an advisory merchant bank, serving clients from offices in Boston, New York and San Francisco and has worked on over 250 strategic transactions involving asset management businesses over two decades. Prior to becoming an investment banker at Putnam Lovell NBF in 2003, Darlene was for 25 years a leading adviser to the financial services industry, specializing in strategic marketing, planning, marketing, product design and the implementation of innovative service strategies. Her work on outsourcing and use of technology has transformed her fund company clients. She has participated in numerous fund company asset management restructuring transactions. Since shifting to investment banking full time, Darlene has led or participated in a score of advisory transactions. Her current clients include sale and purchase mandates for institutional and mutual fund managers in the U.S., as well as restructuring assignments for alternative investment firms that seek to tap the public markets in the U.S. and abroad.

Darlene ran NewRiver's eBusiness Advisory unit for four years until 2003, prior to which she operated her own strategy firm in asset management, DeRemer & Associates, for 18 years. DeRemer & Associates, founded in 1987, was the first consultancy focused on the U.S. mutual fund industry. From 1985 to 1987, Darlene was Vice President and Director in the Asset Management Division of State Street Bank & Trust Company (now State Street Global Advisors) where she managed the $4 billion Pension Real Estate department and developed Marketing Communications and Client Service programs. Before joining State Street, Darlene was a Vice President at T. Rowe Price from 1982 to 1985. Darlene's career started in strategic planning at Tiger International Resources, Inc., and its subsidiary, Flying Tiger Airlines. In addition to United Capital Financial Partners, Inc., Darlene currently serves on the following boards:

Robert W. Doede

Robert is a retired private investor whose career spans more than 25 years in the investment business. Most recently, he was majority stockholder, Chairman and President of Centurion Capital Group Inc., a California-based asset management organization that manufactured and distributed a broad range of investment products including separate account, mutual fund and variable annuity wrap programs. Centurion Capital Group had two major wholly owned operating subsidiaries: Centurion Capital Management Corp., based in Los Angeles and Centurion Trust Company, based in Phoenix. The firm also acquired other investment advisory firms and fully integrated them into the Centurion subsidiaries over the course of its history.

Centurion Trust Company also provided the seed money and served as investment manager to Centurion Funds, Inc. Centurion Capital Group Inc. was sold to GE Financial Assurance Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of GE (General Electric) Capital, in December 2001, at which time the subsidiaries were renamed GE Private Asset Management, Inc. and GE Financial Trust Company. Mr. Doede remained an adviser to them following the sale until December 2003. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Bishop's School, La Jolla, California, having served as Chairman of their Finance Committee. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors/Trustees of California Western School of Law, San Diego, CA, University of California San Diego Moores Cancer Center; San Diego Symphony; and the La Jolla Music Society. Robert co-founded Catallactics Corporation, a specialty service firm for trust departments at major banks. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Catco, Inc., parent company of Catallactics. He also ran his own investment fund and served on the boards of Concentric Network Corporation; Glenwood Trust company; Quantum, Inc.; and Jefferies & Company. Robert holds a PhD and MA, both in Economics, from the University of Chicago and a BA from Yale University, with a major in Economics. He also taught economics at the Wharton School.

Arthur Rubinfeld

Arthur is a creative visionary who has a reputation for defining a brand's DNA and bringing it to life through space with a deep focus on the customer experience—predominantly retail. With a rare combination of strategic planning, real estate development and creative acumen, he balances brand growth with customer relevance.

Arthur is Chief Creative Officer and President, Global Innovation for Starbucks. He has been credited as one of Starbucks' most important stewards and a key influence in Starbucks becoming one of the world's most respected brands. Having joined in the 1990s to lead the company's retail real estate and design divisions as Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Store Development, Arthur shaped the Starbucks Experience by creating a desirable experience based on community gathering. He set the industry gold standard in retail development and expansion in 2009.

Given his advocacy for environmental stewardship, Arthur set the direction for a new store design using organic and recycled materials with the ultimate goal of building LEED-certified stores. Today, he continues to transform the Starbucks Experience by focusing on the intersection of technology, design and customer experience to deliver seamless interactions that delight, engage and educate people.

During his time outside of Starbucks between 2002 and 2008, he founded AIRVISON, an advisory firm that has and continues to build a reputation around Ideate, Create, Execute," by starting from the ground up to help brands reach their full potential. AIRVISION partners with leaders who have a desire to transform their category to develop and expand such celebrated brands as Microsoft, Adidas and Oakley.

Arthur published "Built for Growth: Expanding Your Business Around the Corner or Across the Globe," a primer designed to share knowledge and guide in inspiring entrepreneurs on effectively developing and growing a business that is brand-led and customer first. "Built for Growth" received critical acclaim from publications such as The Financial Times and Kirkus Reports and has been published in six languages.

Rob Stavis

Rob is a Partner in Bessemer Venture Partner's Larchmont, New York office. He focuses on investments in the financial services sector as well as in emerging software technologies. Since joining Bessemer, Rob has led the firm's investments in and sits on the boards of the independent research companies Gerson Lehrman Group and Soleil Securities Group Inc., CRM software developer Portrait Software (formerly AIT Group, LSE-AIM: PST), financial marketplace Zopa, leads generator Yodle, online creative messaging service Smilebox, online educational website Knewton and the stock-loan-focused broker/dealer financial services company Quadriserv. He was closely involved in Bessemer's investment in Motilal Oswal Financial Services, an India-based financial services and brokerage company, which has since gone public on India's Bombay and National Stock Exchanges as MOSL. His exited investments include website security rating firm SiteAdvisor (acquired by McAfee), home-network management software provider Pure Networks (acquired by Cisco), prepaid debit card provider PRE Solutions (acquired by Incomm), the financial services analytics company LifeHarbor (acquired by Vestmark) and Skype Technologies (purchased by eBay in 2005), where Rob led the A round.

Prior to joining Bessemer in 2000, Rob was an independent private equity investor. In this capacity, he led the A round and served on the board of Arbinet Corporation (NASDAQ:ARBX), the world's leading electronic market for trading, routing and settling communications capacity. He also managed a portfolio of interests in a number of industries, including telecommunications, software, technology and restaurants. His restaurant partnerships have backed such operations as Union Pacific, Calle Ocho, Django, Rain and BLT Prime. Rob entered private equity after a 15-year career at Salomon Smith Barney, where he became Co-Head of Global Arbitrage Trading. He was a member of Salomon's Operating and Risk Management Committees, and chaired the Recruiting Committee, in addition to managing a $100 billion balance sheet. Rob holds degrees from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Management. He has published articles on derivatives pricing and risk management for financial services companies. Rob's charitable work includes serving as President of the Board of Westchester Jewish Community Services, Westchester County's oldest and most comprehensive social service agency, and formerly as a Director of the Kingswood-Oxford School and the Larchmont Temple.

Scott Stuart

Scott Stuart co-founded Sageview in 2005 and is based in Greenwich. He is currently the lead independent director at EverBank Financial and a director at Cadence Bancorp, Reflexis, and United Capital. Prior to founding Sageview, Scott was a Partner at KKR serving on their investment committee from 2000 to 2005. He joined KKR's New York office in 1986 and became Partner in 1994, where he was responsible for the utilities and consumer products industry groups. Prior to joining KKR, Scott worked at Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb, Inc. in the mergers and acquisitions group. Scott is also a member of the board at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Scott received his A.B. in English from Dartmouth college and his M.B.A. from Stanford University.
