Shari J. Burns

SHARI J. BURNS, CFA

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Shari is a Managing Director of the United Capital Seattle office, a highly focused investment practice specializing in customized portfolio strategies for families, trusts and foundations. Prior to partnering with United Capital, Shari started Paragon Investment Management in August of 1991.

With over 30 years of investment management experience, Shari’s career has included security trading of equities, corporate, treasury and municipal bond markets; financial analysis of several company and industry groups; and portfolio management of Individual and Trust portfolios, Endowment Funds and Pension Funds. While with Rainier Bank for over 13 years, she set up the Private Client group, and managed the Personal Asset Management Group from 1987-1990. Shari was instrumental in starting Private Banking in 1983, creating an Investment Counseling group for Private Banking clients in 1983-1989, and managing pension portfolios and equity common trust funds for the Trust Division from 1978-1982.

Shari attended the University of Washington with a major in Finance and Economics. She received her professional designation of CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) in 1978. She is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Seattle. She is actively involved in philanthropic interests.

    Gary R. Mitchell

    GARY R. MITCHELL, CFA

    MANAGING DIRECTOR

    Gary joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1991 to build the firm with Shari. Gary is a Managing Director of the United Capital Seattle office and supervises the Portfolio Management, Research and Trading functions. He is actively involved in the management of client portfolios and customized portfolio strategies to accomplish their investment goals.

    Gary has over 26 years experience in the investment management and banking business. He began his career with Waddell & Reed Inc., followed by five years with Rainier/Security Pacific Bank in Private Banking. He earned his CFA designation in 1993 and received his MBA from Seattle University. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Seattle.

      Catherine Humbert

      CATHERINE E.B. HUMBERT, CFA, CFP®

      MANAGING DIRECTOR

      Catherine joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office,  in 1999 and is a Managing Director. Catherine’s responsibilities include portfolio management, trading, credit analysis, client interface and management of Paragon’s financial affairs. Prior to joining Paragon, Catherine received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Pomona College. Her studies also included a year at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Strasbourg, France. She earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst in 2002. She is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Seattle. She is also a Certified Financial Planner.

        Marjanne Masterman

        MARJANNE K. MASTERMAN, CFP®

        MANAGING DIRECTOR

        Marjanne joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1992 and is a Managing Director. Her responsibilities include client services, supervisor of operations and regulatory compliance. Ms. Masterman has more than 30 years experience in the securities industry. She began at Charles Schwab and Company in 1978 and after 5 years joined Rainier National Bank in their new Bank Brokerage Unit. When the Brokerage Unit became a subsidiary of the Bank, Marjanne was promoted to President and General Principal of the subsidiary. Marjanne is a Certified Financial Planner and member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners.

          Jason P. Bremer

          SENIOR PORTFOLIO MANAGER & INVESTMENT ANALYST

          Jason joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1997 and is a Senior Portfolio Manager & Investment Analyst. He has multiple responsibilities throughout the investment management process, including portfolio management, equity research, and trading. Jason received his bachelor’s degree in International Political Economics from the Jackson School of International Studies, and a minor in music from the University of Washington. He graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 1995. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2000. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Seattle.

            Christopher Helton

            CHRISTOPHER R. HELTON, CFA

            SENIOR INVESTMENT ANALYST

            Chris joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1995 and is a Senior Investment Analyst. Mr. Helton has worked in the investment business for more than 30 years. Directly after receiving his MBA in Finance from Columbia University (1976), Chris worked at Morgan Guaranty in New York City and Banker’s Trust as a financial analyst. In 1983, he joined Security Pacific as their Director of Research. Prior to joining Paragon, Chris was the Director of Equity at Bank of America in Los Angeles. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Seattle.

              Daniel L. Rutter

              DANIEL L. RUTTER, CFA

              SENIOR PORTFOLIO MANAGER & INVESTMENT ANALYST

              Dan joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 2011 and is a Senior Portfolio Manager and Investment Analyst. Mr. Rutter began his career as a securities analyst and portfolio manager at Safeco Asset Management in 1993. In 2001 he was a Senior Portfolio Manager and analyst with Laird Norton Trust Co and Wentworth Hauser & Violich. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1995. Dan graduated in 1986 Cum Laude from Central Washington University in Business Economics and continued on to earn his Masters in Finance and Computer Science at the University of Washington. Dan is an active member and past president of the CFA Society of Seattle and an active member of the CFA Institute.

                Sandra Sutton

                SENIOR FIXED INCOME PORTFOLIO MANAGER & TRADER

                Sandy joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 2005 and is a Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and Trader. She focuses on trading, analysis and portfolio allocation. Sandy has over 20 years experience in the securities industry, primarily specializing in municipal bonds. Prior to joining Paragon, Sandy spent 10 years as V.P. and High Net Worth specialist on Smith Barney’s Seattle municipal bond trading desk. She earned a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Oregon in 1985, and was a graduate teaching fellow in the Doctoral program for Economics at the University of Hawaii in 1989.

                  Cynthia joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1998. As Director of Client Services, her responsibilities include client services, operations, custodial liaison and reporting.

                  Cynthia has over 20 years experience in the securities industry. She began at Security Pacific Bank in Portland, Oregon as an investment portfolio accountant in 1987 and transferred to Security Pacific in Seattle as the Investment Accounting and Compliance Supervisor. In 1994 Cynthia moved to Seafirst Investment Services as an Assistant Vice President and Operations Manager. She earned a bachelors degree in business from Southern Oregon University.

                    Casey M Hogan

                    DIRECTOR OF CLIENT OPERATIONS

                    Casey joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1996. As Director of Client Operations, his responsibilities include client services and reporting, and acting as a liaison between the various custodial banks and brokerage firms.

                    Casey has over 15 years experience in the securities industry. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of N. Dakota in 1991, Casey began his career with Seafirst Investment Services in Seattle, where he became licensed as a broker and was promoted to operations supervisor. Upon returning to the Midwest in 1996, Casey worked as safekeeping manager for First Bank in St. Paul, Minnesota.

                      Kathleen joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, in 1999. As a Client Service Associate, her responsibilities include client services and reporting, acting as a liaison between the various custodial banks and brokerage firms, as well as other office management activities.

                        Lauren Lauritsen

                        Lauren joined Paragon Investment Management, now the United Capital Seattle office, as a full-time employee in 2009. As a Client Service Associate, her responsibilities include assisting the Managing Directors with new business presentations and client meetings, handling fee billing and managing account review responsibilities. She earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Seattle in 2007. She also received a Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University, Institute of Finance.
