T. Taylor Payne, CPA/PFS, CFP®
Taylor’s strong background in finance and his even stronger desire to help others came to a crossroads in 1989 when he started his own business Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville.
A Columbia, Mo., native, Taylor graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a major in accounting, from the University of Missouri in 1975. He worked at the CPA firm Deloitte and Touche in St. Louis and later as vice president of finance at Black Beauty Coal before making the life-changing decision to start his own business.
Taylor started the company by going down a very non-traditional route: Looking at planning and investing from a client’s perspective. He spent the early years trying to convince the marketplace that Payne Wealth Partners was worth hiring, that a true fiduciary planning function along with investment management was vital to the client. The hard work has paid off.
“Today people are searching for the experienced financial planner who serves as a fiduciary, putting the client’s best interests first 100% of the time,” Taylor said.
Taylor received his Certified Public Accountant certification in 1979 and his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 1991. He has also earned the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation, which indicates expertise in the personal financial planning area of the public accounting profession. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Taylor’s desire to help others isn’t limited to his client base — he has been involved in many organizations in the Evansville community including the boards of the Ronald McDonald House of the Ohio Valley and Evansville Country Club. He is a past member of the Evansville City Council and of the Area Planning Commission.
Taylor and wife Jenny are the parents of two daughters, Sarah and Laura, and three sons, Andrew, Ethan and Alex. In addition to spending time with his family, Taylor enjoys golf, hiking and reading.
Ann Pendley, CFP®
Senior Wealth Manager/Business Development
Ann Pendley enjoys the “aha!” moment.
That “aha!” moment is the moment clients have when they really realize how Payne Wealth Partners’, now United Capital Evansville, services impact their lives. This is more than wealth management; it’s a way to life your one best financial life. When clients realize just what that means, it changes everything.
As the youngest of five children, Ann learned early on that you have to work hard for the fruits of life. She witnessed her parents working all the time to provide for her and her siblings, and yet the family didn’t have much in the way of material comforts. As an adult, Ann gained perspective on her parents’ working lives when for a time, she found herself working and raising her two sons on her own. These experiences helped Ann to develop a strong desire to help others maximize their quality of life for both today and tomorrow, and her background in the financial industry allows her to do just that.
Working in the present and planning for the future are not mutually exclusive, and by listening carefully to what her clients want to achieve, Ann helps them to reach those goals. Her financial career began in 1987 at Banc One in Indianapolis, where she began to establish her financial knowledge. After five years there, she joined Charles Schwab & Company, honing her skills as a senior investment consultant over 13 years, including five in Evansville. During that time, Ann developed a broad knowledge of the financial industry, as well as the importance of understanding what it takes to help a client live the life they really want.
As Senior Wealth Manager/Business Development for United Capital Evansville, Ann’s responsibilities primarily focus on marketing the firm to potential clients and working in close conjunction with all of the firm’s divisions to ensure clients receive high-end service. She also develops and maintains strategic relationships with area attorneys, CPAs and other professionals. In 2006, she earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification from The American College.
But Ann’s commitment to helping others isn’t limited to the clients served by United Capital Evansville. Her involvement in many Evansville-area clubs and organizations allows her to support individuals from all walks of life. She is a board member of the Wessleman Nature Center, as well as a current member of Junior League, Downtown Optimist Club, ANEW, Evansville Bike Club and the Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County. She has also been involved with the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp, Save Kids program, the Boys & Girls Club, Youth First, Greenwood (IN)Little League and previously chaired the Girl Scouts of Southern Indiana Pearls of Wisdom event and the Junior League Rockin’ River City Ride and GLOW Run event.
Ann and her husband, Kevin, have three adult sons, and three grandchildren, and like to spend their free time in active pursuits. They enjoy hiking, rappelling, four-wheeling, and mountain biking – anything that gets the adrenaline pumping.
Ann lives life to its fullest, and when the “aha!” moment comes for her clients, it means that they can live their lives to the fullest, too. For Ann Pendley, that’s what the “aha!” moment is all about.
N. Perry Moore, CBEC™, CFP®, MBA, CBEC®
Senior Wealth Manager
After graduating from Western Kentucky University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in financial planning, Perry knew what he wanted: to work with a financial planning firm that was planning-centric and serving clients as a fiduciary. He passed his CFP® exam in March of 2005, joined Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, one month later and has been here ever since.
“It is so rewarding to be a part of a mission that serves clients lives, not just their money. By helping our clients make better decisions we help them live better lives. At the end of each day it feels good to have earned client trust and be part of their story.”
Perry leads the high net worth service line of United Capital Evansville, which focuses on helping clients relate their wealth to what is important in their lives. He completed Chartered Financial ConsultantTM (ChFC) course work, which is a continuation of his CFP® education, in 2007 and in 2011 earned his MBA at the University of Southern Indiana. Perry specializes in helping high net worth families and business owners with their unique wealth planning opportunities and challenges. He also earned his CERTIFIED BUSINESS EXIT CONSULTANT® designation through Pinnacle Equity Solutions and leads the business exit planning process with business owner clients.
Perry serves on the Board of Directors for the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, Board of Directors for Solarbron, attends Christian Fellowship Church and supports numerous other local charities via committees and volunteering.
Outside of the office and involvement in important charity work, Perry spends his time with his friends and family. Perry and his wife, Amanda, have two children, Emma and Ethan.
Terry Prather, CFP®, ChFC®, MSFS
Senior Wealth Manager
Terry Prather tries to strike a healthy balance between today and tomorrow.
In his position as a Senior Wealth Manager with Keystone Financial Consulting, now United Capital Evansville, Terry helps families use their financial resources to accomplish what’s most important to them. “I help families evaluate and balance their long-term financial independence with all their other life goals,” he says. “These families often want to be responsible with the financial resources available to them to do good things for family and the causes they’re passionate about. We all make financial decisions every day, and I have the privilege of helping clients make these decisions in context of their long-term picture.”
Had he not found college physics to be boring, he might not have ever become a wealth manager. Initially Terry pursued an engineering degree, but lacked enthusiasm for the physics classes in his major. When he switched colleges and changed majors, the pieces began to fall into place. He discovered an aptitude for accounting, and after graduation found himself drawn to financial planning. This desire eventually led Terry to earn the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification and then pursue a Master of Science in Financial Services, and each day he uses this knowledge to help families find that healthy balance between today and tomorrow.
“I enjoy being face-to-face with our clients, and I like being able to explain the more technical aspects, explain how their strategy works,” says Terry. “We like it when clients walk away feeling they received a lot of value, that we’ve used their resources effectively.”
As a man with a strong, faith-filled Christian background, Terry devotes a good bit of his free time toward music ministry in his church, New Life Church in Newburgh. Terry and his wife Paula share their talents through singing and playing guitar (Terry) and keyboards (Paula) and are sometimes joined by their three children in this endeavor. They also like to spend time as a family outdoors, visiting Holiday World and Paoli Peaks, riding bikes, hiking, and swimming.
Bethany M. Muensterman, CFA®
Senior Wealth Manager
Bethany’s personality and passion for assisting others led her to Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, in 2010. Bethany thrives in her position as a result of her energy and enthusiasm for building strong relationships with clients and taking on new responsibilities. As a Senior Wealth Manager, she combines her skill in research analytics with her passion for helping others to design investment portfolios that fit each client’s individual financial life goals.
When Bethany was an undergraduate at Ball State University, she worked on an honor’s research fellowship and a senior thesis project that instilled in her a skill and passion for research and analysis in the financial world. Not long after graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance in 2010, Bethany started at Payne Wealth Partners and has earned through the years her position of Chief Investment Officer.
In the summer of 2015, Bethany earned the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. This designation, one of the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world, represents a tradition of upholding high standards of education and integrity in the investment profession. The charter is recognized globally by employers, investment professionals and investors as a definitive standard by which to measure the competence, integrity and dedication of serious investment professionals.
Recipients of the CFA charter have successfully completed the CFA Program, a graduate-level, self-study curriculum and a series of three intensive examinations taken sequentially, which, in total, takes most candidates between two and five years. Candidate surveys report that preparation for the three exams typically requires at least 900 combined hours of study.
Bethany leads the investment-specific research, developing the firm’s asset allocation strategies and placing trades in clients’ portfolios. However, Bethany will tell you it’s a true team effort. At Payne Wealth Partners, the Business Development, Investment Management, Wealth Planning and Client Services divisions all work hand-in-hand for each client, and Bethany fits right in. “Coming from a big family has helped me understand the team concept; how each team member’s role fits together to get from Point A to Point B,” said Bethany, an Evansville native. But even with all that she has accomplished, Bethany makes time for an active life with her husband, Nick, and her small dog, Thor. She enjoys a variety of outdoor hobbies including running, kayaking, sky diving–“anything that gets me outdoors on a sunny day” – as well as traveling as much as she can. Some of her favorite recent adventures include living in Manhattan, running a half marathon on the Wall of China, exploring Hawaiian culture with Nick, and backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, and Hong Kong with her younger sister, Emmalee.
Joshua R. Wichman, CFP®, MBA
“Our finances allow us to do the things that really define us in life. “
Josh Wichman was going to be an attorney, graduating from Xavier University with a degree in Political Science, a typical path for a would-be lawyer. But a funny thing happened that first year in law school: he found out that being an attorney wasn’t what he really wanted to do. He knew he wanted to further his education, though, so he switched into an MBA program, and it was there that he had the opportunity to work for a financial planning firm as an intern.
And everything fell into place.
That may be simplifying the story just a bit, but financial planning turned out to be the best fit for Josh and his passion to help people. Josh understands that it is the successful management of our finances that frees us to do the things we want to do, and as a wealth planner with Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, he helps his clients to make informed decisions for their financial independence. “I wanted to work for a firm who had the same ideals I had to always put clients’ interests first and to avoid any conflicts of interest. Working at United Capital Evansville allows me to focus on what I’m passionate about.” This passion to put clients interest first led Josh to earn his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP® certification marks.
As the son of an active duty Army Chaplain, Josh has had the opportunity to live in many places, though he considers Cincinnati, Ohio, to be his hometown. He and his wife, Lena, have four beautiful children whose activities keep them busy. Josh is active in his local church and enjoys singing on the praise team. He also enjoys playing and watching sports (especially Ohio State football) and considers himself an avid movie buff.
The legal field’s loss is United Capital Evansvilles’ gain.
Chad R. McPherson, CFP®, CLU®
Reading consumes the majority of Chad’s free time. “Early in my career, I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Immediately, I stopped thinking about money like most and began looking at money in my own terms.” For Chad, this meant finding a firm that helped him serve clients without having to sell.
Being a financial planner at heart, Chad desired to be incentivized to do unbiased planning. “Growing up, I heard messages like money is just a tool; it doesn’t define who you are. Your character defines who you are. Financial planning is a great way for me to use my knowledge about ‘money’ to help families understand what their wealth means outside of investing.”
Prior to joining Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville Chad spent almost two years working as a life insurance agent. He currently holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and Charter Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designations.
Director of Operations
Lori brightens any room she enters, and the office at Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, is no exception. She carries that charisma and engaging personality over to the client relationships she builds and maintains.
Since joining Payne Wealth Partners in January 2008, Lori has become an anchor for the day-to-day tasks that take place in the firm. She is responsible for creating new client accounts, account transfers, wire procedures and assisting with quarterly client reporting, as well as performing daily administrative tasks.
Lori’s background in marketing at Healthsouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital and her experience working with clients at Edward Jones are the perfect mix of experience in assisting the clients at United Capital Evansville. Her wealth of knowledge has led her to be the go-to person for everyone in the office. It’s a position that she enjoys: “Every day brings something new, and I never do the same thing twice. I enjoy the variety of work here.”
At the end of the day, Lori takes her pleasant demeanor and positive outlook and extends it to her home life. She finds comfort in gardening and pleasure in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, and mountain climbing. As a mom to three kids, her focus is on her family and their interests – the same kind of attention she brings to her job at United Capital Evansville. Lori is a perfect example of how each person on the United Capital Evansville staff is part of a team that cares for its clients.
Christian Tant, RP®
When Christian Tant joined the PWP staff, now United Capital Evansville, in 2014, he stepped into a very important role: Relationship Manager. As support staff for the Certified Financial Planners (CFPs) on staff, Christian performs many of the necessary tasks in the development of a client’s financial plan, from gathering financial reports and records to analyzing the information and researching a number of different options for each client’s plan. He also prepares reports, inputs data into the firm’s Wealth Planning software, and assists clients using the planning website. His responsibilities allow the CFPs on staff to focus more completely on developing client relationships.
It’s an atmosphere in which he thrives. “It’s great working around people whose company you enjoy,” he says. “Everyone always works as a team and is always helpful, which is also a great thing about working at United Capital Evansville.” Although Christian was born and raised in Evansville, when it came time for him to choose a college, he headed south. At the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelors in Financial Planning, he became a lifelong supporter of Crimson Tide football. When it’s not college football season, he spends time with friends and family, plays golf, and watches whatever sport is in season.
Kent Miiller joined Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, in summer 2017 as a relationship manager. In this role, he is responsible for gathering client information and data, using the firm’s wealth planning software, and developing different financial plans for the team’s clients. His responsibilities allow the CFPs on staff to focus more completely on developing client relationships. Kent is a recent graduate of Purdue University where he earned his bachelors in Financial Counseling and Planning.
Kent recently moved to Evansville from Indianapolis where he was raised. He enjoys spending time with family at the lake, playing golf and baseball with his longtime friends, or spending time in the fields on his grandparent’s farm.
One of the more unique things about Kent is the spelling of his last name “Miiller”. It is not a typo. It is in fact spelled with two “i’s”. “I have always had people consistently misspelling or mispronouncing my last name. If I had a dollar for every time someone messed it up, I would be a very rich man.”
Administrative Manager/Business Development
Ali Meyer joined Payne Wealth Partners, now United Capital Evansville, in spring 2017 business development and marketing. In this role, she organizes and assists with the implementation of team marketing programs; gathers and reports data for team member goals; and manages the firm’s digital marketing, website, events and internal/external communications.
Prior to starting her role at United Capital Evansville, Ali spent the last four years working in public service, including time in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development. Here, she developed a strong desire to help others. During her time in state government, Ali earned certificates for the Simplex I & II process for creative problem solving and the Lean Daily Management System.
Coming from outside the financial world, Ali brings a fresh and unique perspective to the United Capital Evansville team. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in public relations and a minor in tourism management. With past experience as a property manager, office manager and project manager, Ali has a knack for keeping things organized and looking for ways to improve efficiency.
When she isn’t running reports for PWP, she can be found running the streets and greenway around Evansville. Other hobbies include attending live sporting events, traveling when she gets the chance, reading fiction, and hanging with her puppy, Hank.
